ARTIST STATEMENT

This series, painted in 2019, was inspired by the Goddess Artemis. Her symbols are the bow and arrow and the moon. I believe that all women have some Artemis traits and share her indomitable spirit. In painting this series, I pictured our resilient grandmothers petitioning the moon to help them in some way; for abundant crops, health for all, or a specific request for an individual. Once the intention is set, an arrow is aimed at the moon and released. Painting allows me to lose track of time and to have a sense of flow and presence. I love the process of transforming a blank canvas into an Artemis-inspired archer full of hope.

ABOUT

MARION PEREPOLKIN’s curiosity and love of travel has taken her to many corners of the world. Two trips to Greece, in 2018 and 2019, inspired an interest in mythology and ultimately her Artemis Moon Series. This series lead to creating ArtemisMoonStudio.ca, her online gallery. Marion’s other interests include writing, photography, astronomy, and long walks in nature. Marion was born in British Columbia, Canada, where she lives and works. She looks forward to exploring and travelling again.
